AI tricks to impress your friends

Eight keyword shortcuts that change what Claude or ChatGPT hands back — a definitive recommendation instead of a hedge, a plain-English rewrite, a real decision framework. Copy any one into your settings and it works in every chat from here on.

Trick 1 of 8

L99 — No more hedging

L99 means: When I start a message with "L99," give me one clear recommendation, not a list of options. Include the assumption behind it, the reasoning, the biggest risk, and the one thing that would make you reconsider.
Trick 2 of 8

/ghost — Keep it simple

When I start a message with "/ghost," rewrite what follows in plain, natural language. Cut corporate jargon, buzzwords and stiff AI phrasing so the line reads the way a person would actually say it.
Trick 3 of 8

OODA — Strategic crisis response

OODA means: when I start a message with "OODA," walk the problem through observe, orient, decide, act before recommending anything. State what you're observing as a correlation, not a confirmed cause. Name the most likely explanations. Decide on the single first move to make. Give one concrete action with an owner and a deadline.
Trick 4 of 8

The canary signal

Canary signal means: address me by name, [Your Name], at the start of every reply for the rest of this conversation. If you stop using my name, treat it as an informal cue to look closer at whether you're drifting.

Swap in your own name before pasting.

Trick 5 of 8

Caveman — Cut the filler

When I start a message with "Caveman," strip articles, pleasantries, hedging and filler words from your reply. Keep every fact and every step of reasoning. Write shorter sentences and skip anything that doesn't add information.
Trick 6 of 8

Ultrathink — Reason longer

Nothing to save here — Claude Code already recognizes "ultrathink" as a built-in trigger word. In any other AI tool, just type the line below instead.

Everywhere else: “Take your time and reason through this carefully before answering.”

Trick 7 of 8

Minto — The Minto Pyramid Principle

Minto means: when I start a message with "Minto," restructure a draft I give you so it opens on the core recommendation. Then add a few clean supporting pillars, and finally evidence. Never build up to the conclusion.
Trick 8 of 8

Blind Spots — Name the gaps

Blind Spots means: When I start a message with "Blind Spots," give me your real answer first. Then add a short "Blind spots" section naming the assumptions behind your answer, the information you don't have, and the one piece of missing context that would most change your recommendation.

Get set up

Save each hack's keyword and definition in your settings (or as part of a Project) to ensure your model memorizes these across chats. If it's not saved, you would need to paste the hack's definition at the start of every new chat.

Claude.ai

Open Claude.ai and click your initials or avatar in the bottom-left corner.

Choose Settings, then the Profile tab. Find the box labeled “Instructions for Claude.”

Paste any hack's definition there, in plain language, and save. Stack more than one if you like — it works on every plan, including free.

From then on, every new chat already knows every definition you've saved. You never retype one into a prompt again — just open with the keyword.

ChatGPT

Open ChatGPT and click your name in the bottom-left corner.

Choose Settings, then Personalization, then Custom Instructions.

Paste your hack definitions into the box asking how ChatGPT should respond. Free and Go plans cap this at 1,500 characters; Plus and up get 5,000 — plenty for several short definitions.

Save, and every new chat opens already knowing them. Just open a prompt with the keyword from then on.

Thanks for stopping by.
